The shrine of Saint Christina is perched upon a crag overlooking the villages of Ceres and Cantoira from the top of the watershed between the Ala and Grande valleys. It offers a 360° panorama, stretching from the head of the valleys with high peaks rising over 3,500m to the bottom of the Lanzo valley and the Canavese plains in the distance.
There are many indications of faith along the path, including votive shrines and chapels in areas which have been inhabited since ancient times when the mountain folk lived in the “barme“, characteristic shelters beneath the rocks.
The route takes you through wooded habitats with ancient chestnut trees covering the south-facing slopes and elegant beech tress growing on the north-facing sides.
Note: the village of Ceres can easily be reached by taking the train which departs from Turin and goes via Caselle airport.
